Why this DNC Refuses to Release their 2024 Election Autopsy: A Deep Dive.

This decision by the Democratic National Committee to block the publication regarding its internal post-election analysis on the 2024 election is stunning but not surprising. Opposed to frank assessments, the DNC behaves closer to a publicity machine rather than a political organization devoted to cultivating a volunteer base to secure victories.

An Environment That Avoids Dissent

Hesitant to depart from the prevailing attitude of conformity, the committee has stayed within the Biden-Harris shadow throughout 2025. Publishing such a report could have demonstrated that party leaders are interested to promote open debate regarding the missteps which allowed the former president to become president again. Yet, the committee is acting as if there is little to be learned following the tragic debacle of 2024.

The top priority: is this good for winning elections? If not, it becomes a sideline issue from the core mission," an explanation reportedly given for withholding the analysis.

Key Issues an Autopsy Could Have Addressed

Any valuable post-mortem of substance would confront a series of difficult topics. These include:

  • Voter Disenchantment: Losing among millions of voters that backed the party's candidate in 2020 became a critical factor during the tight recent race.
  • A Choice to Run: The stubborn insistence of the incumbent to stay in the race, coupled with a last-minute exit, is viewed as denying Democratic voters of a competitive nomination process.
  • Abandoning Everyday Americans: While facing economic anxiety, the campaign allegedly accommodating elite contributors while failing to address the impact of corporate greed.
  • The Foreign Policy Factor: An unwillingness to adjust a policy position regarding a ongoing war is cited as losing many voters, particularly among youth voters, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • A Decline in Youth Backing: Extensive evidence indicates a significant decline of Democratic support among voters aged 18-29.

A History Avoiding Accountability

Choosing secrecy is consistent with a pattern of evading uncomfortable facts. This mirrors a dynamic in which virtually every Democratic officeholder in Washington went along with an incumbent's determination to seeking another term until a catastrophic televised debate led to a reversal.

At the same time, large majorities of the electorate had been repeatedly informing pollsters of their opposition to that candidate to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Questions

A substantive autopsy could probe questions regarding financial allocations, including what sums were directed to insider consultants and ad buyers over the course of a campaign which expended a staggering amount in a short period.

The Underlying Problem

Ultimately, the secrecy of the official autopsy points to a submission to the established hierarchy that oversaw a losing national race. The message for ordinary supporters – which includes millions of dedicated activists – is that they do not have a right to know what the insiders claim to have learned based on a report based on conversations with insiders.

A party unable to honestly assess where it went wrong will struggle to break free from the pattern that ended up being so advantageous to the winning candidate.
